Program Overview – Hawks Baseball

The Towson Tigers are led by Head Coach Matt Tyner, a former 9th-round MLB draft pick by the Baltimore Orioles. Coach Tyner took over the Tigers’ program in 2018 after several successful stints across different levels of college baseball including stings at Richmond University and Bellarmine University. Before he was drafted, Coach Tyner also has a very impressive playing career at the University of Miami, leading the team to a College World Series appearance.

Associate Head Coach Tanner Biagini also has an impressive resume. Growing up around professional baseball, and after a successful career as a player, Biagini has established a respected coaching track record before joining the Tigers working primarily with the catchers and hitters.

A competitor in the Colonial Athletic Association, the Tigers are an NCAA Division I program that recently earned a CAA Tournament berth for the first time since 2013.

Towson baseball team has its home at John B. Schuerholz Park, which was inaugurated on April 29, 2001. The park underwent a major renovation and expansion, completed in mid-April, which included permanent seating, a press box, a concessions area, and restroom facilities. The park underwent improvement in 2019, including the addition of a new warning track, Latitude 36 Bermuda grass, DuraEdge infield material, padding, and artificial turf around home plate. The following year, a new opposing bullpen was built in right field and a tabled area was added behind home plate.

Closing Remarks

Towson University is a well-rounded academic university, and the baseball program competes in a strong conference and is led by a great coaching staff. We really appreciate Coach Biagini sharing some insight into his recruiting process.

Coach Biagini made an important point that players should consider all aspects of being a student-athlete when finding the right fit, including academically, financially, athletically, and socially. Players shouldn’t take this advice lightly and give each of these areas the necessary thought when looking for a school. “The right fit” will mean something different to each player and their family. Players should know it’s okay to have a different opinion of teammates and coaches, and focus on finding an opportunity that is in line with their interests and what they are looking for in a college.

Players interested in learning more about the university and the Tigers’ program are encouraged to consider attending an upcoming camp. Information about all upcoming camps can be found at matttynerbaseballcamps.com. Again, we would like to thank Coach Biagini for his advice, and we wish the Tigers the best of luck in the future!
